SV: [hughes-fans] Minnesota Fall Con

I don´t recognise the girl in Adams card (it´s the only one in the gallery posted under his name, at least when I went there), who is it?

Hey all;

Adam and i will be at the Minnesota Fall Con this coming weekend.
To celebrate the show's 20th year, they will be giving away artist
sketch cards. They've scanned quite a few and posted them in their CAF
gallery. Adam and I each did 5 cards for the show; apparently over 176
artists donated original art sketch cards and over 950 pieces of
original art will be given away at FallCon 2008! You can see a fair
amount of the cards that have been scanned here:

http://www.comicart fans.com/ GalleryDetail. asp?GCat= 32061

see you all in Minnesota this weekend;
Allison

[hughes-fans] Re: Adam and Howard's Panel

Just a bit of a correction on one of the items.

Adam's mention of "Adam Light" is a style that he's
considering "after" he completes All Star Wonder Woman, not something
he's incorporating into his current artwork.

The question that was posed to him was regarding whether or not he
would consider drawing multiple-page stories after his current
project. He said that the work he was doing on All Star was helping
him to work through the technical possibilities of establishing
an "Adam Light" technique that would make it possible to produce on-
going long term projects while keeping him and his fans happy with
the product.

The work that he's puting into All Star Wonder Woman is the high
standard art style that has always kept him from producing at a
monthly rate.

[hughes-fans] Re: Minnesota Fall Con

Hi Allison,

Looking forward to seeing the both of you again! I'm glad that you
can make it up here this year. It'll be a bit weird not being in the
old convention space, and it might take a bit longer to find you.

If Adam's hand is well enough to sketch, I'll try again for a Wasp,
Wasp-monster, or Adam's favorite monster. Will you also be
sketching, or are you too busy with sketch cards right now?

Last time you were up here I really enjoyed flipping through the
original art sketchbooks and samples that you brought along. I
hope your luggage lets you bring them again this year.

I hope the flight goes well,

Regards, David K

Well, I agree that his injury slowed his drawing speed, but the
drawing skill never waned :) That Ghost piece is gorgeous.

And Allison thanks for holding down the booth! (I was the girl that
bought all his sketchbooks and kept watching him draw all Saturday :P)

RE: [hughes-fans] Re: Baltimore Art-Watch!

Great to hear that you're no longer a comic con virgin :-) It sounds like
you had a great time at Baltimore watching Adam sketch, picking up
sketchbooks prints etc. As for not knowing who Howard Chaykin is.. *shakes
head* ;) Best,

Subject: [hughes-fans] Re: Baltimore Art-Watch!

So I just have to say what a great time I had at Baltimore Comic-Con!
No longer am I a comic-con virgin, so to speak. :D

I was at his table for a considerable bit, and I only saw the Robin
and Wonder Woman, and Conan on Sunday. While sketching Conan I asked
him how many he got done and he's said 3, which included the one he
did in his room (the Ghost one, I guess? which I didn't see).

Just meeting Adam made it for me. I sort of felt like a stalker, just
standing next to his booth watching him draw. Once in a while he was
like, "Is everyone ok? Does anyone need anything?" and the mob of us
watchers were like, "Yeah, we cool." I LOVE watching him draw. It was
my consolation for not getting a sketch. I decided not to get one
since I knew I would spend just as much on his other wares. I got all
4 sketchbooks and the Chun-Li print, and he signed my Silver Snail
poster.

Alison and Adam are SO nice! I felt bad that Adam couldn't draw as
fast as he liked. He thought his drawing ability was lacking as well,
but all I noticed was his speed. He said he usually can draw 1 an hour
but his Robin took him at least double the time.

I was a little late to the panel, but I did catch most of it and it
turned out that Chaykin sort of took over, which Adam warned me about.
I asked him who Howard Chaykin was (don't kill me for not knowing! I'm
not a comics superfan yet) and all he said was that he's quite a
character. Adam really didn't have to say much. But Chaykin called him
the best draughtsman in comics today, and I totally agree. I do
remember there was one question Chaykin asked: "Are you happy?" Adam
answered "no" and Howard answered "yes". They were like opposites:
Howard admits to being an embittered, angry guy but is happy with his
life. Adam considered himself an "unhappy person of high spirits," in
that he needs some dissatisfaction in his life to keep working on his
art. That "rewarding and fun are not synonymous words."

Sorry for the long post!

Hey Allison,

Welcome back, I hope you both had a great time at Baltimore! Thanks for
posting a link to Adam's beautifully moody Ghost piece (love the background)
- it's soooooo good to see new work after the period of Adam's injury. I
trust/hope that Adam's hand coped well with the sketching demands during the
con. Best,

Whoever the recipient was for this artwork is one lucky (and happy) fan!? Beautiful!

I guess Adam had a lot of pent up artistic creativity since his hand injury.

It was good seeing Adam and Allison again!?

Holy moley. You and Adam have a very different idea of what a "sketch"
is than I do... that's one beautifully FINISHED piece of art. Dang.

[hughes-fans] Re: Baltimore Art-Watch!

[hughes-fans] Re: Baltimore Art-Watch!

No problem Royd...i asked Andrew if he was a member of CAF and he said
no, but i told him all about the site and how great it was so he may
join sometime soon...it would be a shame if he didn't share the great
sketches that he had in his Conan book...of course his AH is by far
the best, but he had a lot of impressive art in there just waiting to
be posted! take care everyone, Ryan

[kagsess] respond only if you want

lately i've been trying to write a whole new fanfiction, something i
can do alot with. I keep getting these ideas but everytime i start
writing i get another one and i can't finish the first i started. it's
like a brick wall comes up. so i start on the new idea and after
writing for awhile the same thing happens :(

it's frustrating . Can anyone on here tell me what kind of chainsaw to
buy so i can tear dis freakin' wall down ! please, it'd be really
appreciated.

also i don't mind getting story challenges to write, to force me to
stick with one idea. All credit will be given if that's the case.

Respond with any kind of help , please and thank you

I saw the Conan being worked on, Adam did the Ghost back in his
hotel room Saturday night, but I can't recall if I saw anything else
being done on Sunday. Sunday was Adam's panel with Howard Chaykin,
so that probably took up a lot of what would otherwise have been
sketching time.

Adam and Allison ended up being VERY busy these past few weeks.
Even though it's not up on justsayah.com, Allison confirmed that she
and Adam will be appearing at the Fallcon MCBA show later this week,
and again later in the month at Wonder Woman Day in Portland,
Oregon. 3 shows in the space of a few weeks, and it's not even the
Summer con season! Thanks to both of you for all the time you spend
going out to meet your fans!

I have yet to determine my betas for other stories though since I've
decided to concentrate on CA for the moment

RE: [hughes-fans] Adam and Howard's Panel

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the feedback on the Adam & Howard panel! Howard's panels at
Supanova Perth were very similar in that there was no structure but that
didn't bother Howard at all. At one point, he turned up for his panel and
couldn't find the moderator/MC so he introduced himself and took it away
from there - haha! He was highly entertaining and great fun to listen to.
I was lucky to spend some quality time with Howard at Supanova Perth and San
Diego Comic Con this year. I was responsible for organising our dinners in
Perth and believe me, I was nervous because I knew how important good food
is to Howard!

Great to hear that Howard has a very high opinion of Adam's work! I'm not
sure what Adam thinks of Howard but I'm sure he respects Howard's talent as
an amazing creator. I also enjoyed your recollection of Adam's comments
about ASWW which we're all looking forward to :-) Thanks again for your
post! Best,

Royd

Subject: [hughes-fans] Adam and Howard's Panel

Hi All,
Since someone asked, I will give this my own feeble attempt at filling
everyone in on the
Adam and Howard Chaykin Panel at the Baltimore Comic Con. Let me first admit
I still have
no idea what the whole point of the panel was. Howard was all over the
place. And the
questions from the audience certainly did not help. The last question from
that poor guy
just went on and on. I'm surprised neither Adam or Howard jumped off the
podium and
started to strangle the guy scream "get to a point!" So since I'm confused
about everything
that was covered, I will just list everything I can remember, and you take
it however you
want.

1. Howard loves Adam's work. He referred to him as the greatest draftsman in
comics.
Ever.
2. Starting out, Adam wanted to be the next great "monthly" artist.
3. As a young comic reader, John Byrne was a Hughes favorite.
4. George Perez is a happy idiot who draws on his back lying on his couch.
5. Howard does not think very highly of Neal Adams.
6. Neal Adams thinks very highly of Neal Adams.
7. Either Picasso or Neal Adams is the greatest artist of the 20th Century.
8. Adam is usually dissatisfied with his artwork. And is always fighting to
find his
happiness when it comes to his art.
9. Howard thinks of himself to be a mainstream artist. But the mainstream
moved and
forgot to tell him.
10. Howard did not like working on Star Wars.
11. Howard wants us to read more books with words in them. Apparently there
are books
out there with no pictures in them.
12. Adam's childhood house in NJ suffered a massive sewage back-up
destroying Adam's
comic collection and perhaps the greatest Star Wars comic ever created by a
12 year old.
13. Howard is happy with his life.
14. Adam is not happy with his life.
15. Howard is bitter.
16. Adam is not bitter.
17. Howard can eat his Convention provided lunch and host a comic panel at
the same
time.
18. Howard does not usually wear pants with zippers on them. Sweatpants are
his choice.
19. Adam's hand is doing well and he has lost a few pounds.
20. Adam is working hard on developing a "AH! light" art style to
accommodate All-Star
Wonder Woman while still delivering the money shots we so want.
21. Howard can't have sex with your girl friend. But he can with your
Mother. But don't
worry. He is happily married.

If I forgot something, please forgive me. Maybe Adam can add something in
here. Or, he
may still be reeling from the amount of praise Howard heaped upon him. I'm
not sure if
Adam had any fun in that one hour, but I know I did. It was a very
entertaining time with a
little insight into the artist known as Adam Hughes.

Hi everyone...it's been forever since i've actually posted a message

this year's show was awesome and Andrew the gentleman that received it
was very pleased to say the least! The word balloons on the commission
if i remember correctly was " Crom..I'm 26 years old. What am I doing
with my life!" (The sketch was of a relaxed Conan contemplating his
life haha)...I hope he posts the sketch because it was gorgeous...take
care everyone, Ryan

Not sure, but i would think that the Chaykin and Adam panel might have
influenced the word balloon on the sketch...those of you who attended
the panel might agree :)

Subject: [hughes-fans] Baltimore Art-Watch!

Sorry to step on Royd's subject heading. ;-)

I'm at Baltimore Comicon this weekend, as are Adam and Allison. "The Run"
to Adam's table was in full evidence again, probably because of the
announcement that Adam would be sketching at the show (after not doing any
sketching
for many months because of his injury) and also because he had missed the
last
several shows. Allison made sure to dig into the archives and brought in the

last 2 years worth of sketchbooks (as well as this years) to try to help out

Baltimore people who only buy the books at conventions.

On the first day of this 2 day con, Adam got two beautiful sketches
completed, a Carrie Kelly Robin (Dark Knight Returns) and a Wonder Woman. I
asked
Adam specifically about the Dark Knight Robin, he said it was the first time
he
had EVER been asked to draw the character, and I think the chance to do
something different was very attractive to him. The rest of the time was
spent
signing many, many books for people, so there should be a lot of happy fans
in
Baltimore. :-)

As Allison noted, they did not bring any DC prints to the convention to sell

(nor any other new prints), but Adam's editor at DC went to the bat for
them, and when it turned out that the entire batch of rolled "Women of DC"
prints
sent to Adam's home were damaged, he got them to go back to press, and DC
brought a whole batch of both rolled and folded prints to Baltimore. Adam
sold
the rolled ones, and DC was giving away the folded version.

Got to catch some sleep now, did an 8 hour drive to the con to show up just
before it opened. Back to it again tomorrow!

Dave

[kagsess] Need a Beta

Hi everyone!

Recently, I've been asking people that have a beta profile on FF.net
if they could beta for me, and for some reason no one's answered me
back...So I was wondering if anyone here wouldn't mind betaing one of
the stories I'm writing right now.

The person that had been beta-ing my stories isn't able to anymore,
so I'm in serious need of one.

It's not that my writing is extremely bad, in fact grammar, spelling,
etc. is okay. I just need someone else to double check it for me.

If you'd like to see some of the stuff I've written, heres the link
to my profile. There mostly Kag/Sess....Thanks!

Stories I need betas for are:

Rules of Seduction: Sess/Kag

Labyrinth: Sess/Kag (not posted yet)
