My two cents: I'd imagine that Kagome was born naturally (a most babies are). Especially since Kagome's mother had another child a few years after her. The doctors wouldn't notice the shikon no tama, for the same reason her mother hadn't - there's no indication it was there. It's not like the jewel was positioned over any vital organs, nor was it under so few layers of skin that it would leave a noticeable bump. *shrugs*

As with Miroku, Shippo and Sango's mothers, I'm guessing Kagome's father died of 'natural' causes (i.e. age or a disease) when she was younger. <--- they never mention it, so I'm guessing none of their parents died in accidents. The mother's may have/probably passed in childbirth as was extremely common those days.
